The government is implementing compulsory third party insurance to all vehicle owners from Tuesday September 01, 2009.
According to the new system, insurance companies will pay at least Rs 5,00,000 in case of death in a road accident to the kin of the deceased and bear a treatment cost of up to Rs 2,00,000 in case of injuries, on behalf of the vehicle owner.
The premium for a motorcycle is Rs 1000, a 1000 CC car is Rs 3000 and a bus with more than 35-seats is Rs 10,000, finance ministry officials said at the press conference.
